Today in Gaming - 2/28/11: PlayStation 3 Ban, Half-Minute Hero XBLA

Besides the freedom, which is what made me fall in love with the series in the first place, the thing I like most about Grand Theft Auto is its sense of humor. With the exception of GTA III's Chatterbox radio station, it's been the radio commercials that I've enjoyed listening to more than anything else when playing a GTA game. (Who will ever forget the Maibatsu Monstrosity?) It looks as if that sense of humor will be returning for the next GTA game, whatever that might be, as some GTA-style parody URLs have been registered by Take-Two.

Today's highlights:

And here's what else happened today:

Humble Indie Bundle Generates $3 Million

The two Humble Indie Bundles, each of which was comprised of several indie games that you could pay any amount for, have generated more than $3 million. That's far more than the founders expected it ever would. Even better news than the bundle's success is word that roughly one third of that -- over a million dollars -- has been donated to charity.

PC Gaming is Definitely Not Dying

Despite claims to the contrary, new numbers from the PC Gaming Alliance and research group DFC Intelligence show that PC game is not dying and is, in fact, growing. According to the two, the global PC games market grew 20% in 2010 to $16.2 billion, thanks in large part to growth in China. "A few of the biggest factors fueling this movement are innovative business models making games more accessible with digital distribution, free to play, and online; along with game formats embracing the shifts occurring in the evolution of the PC ecosystem to remain more profitable," said PCGA president Matt Ployhar.

Half-Minute Hero Coming to Xbox Live Arcade

A rating by the Australian Classification Board has unveiled that an XBLA version of PSP game Half-Minute Hero is in the works at Marvelous Entertainment. Titled Super Mega Neo Climax in the listing, Microsoft is said to be its publisher, which would suggest that it won't be coming to the PS3 or Wii. Of course, that's speculation at this point. It's just good news that more people will have the opportunity to play an underappreciate gem like this.
