Microsoft: XBL hasn't been hacked (Xbox 360)

While the release of a large amount of purported data from Xbox Live users might seem like the latest in an ever-lengthening line of hacker attacks on major game companies, Microsoft insists that the dump isn't the result of an intrusion. According toCBC, login details for 62,000 accounts, supposedly including Xbox Live and Facebook profiles, were uploaded to file-sharing sites last week, announced Lulz Security. While other recent hacker attacks have added Sega and BioWare to the list of companies with compromised data, Microsoft denies any intrusion.

According to a statement released by Microsoft, LulzSec ?appears to have posted a list of thousands of potential email addresses and passwords, and encouraged users to try them across various online sites like Xbox Live in the event one of the users happens to use the same password and email address combination. At this time we do not have any evidence Xbox Live has been compromised.? The data was taken down (twice), but LulzSec claim thousands of downloads before it vanished. If you're a concerned XBL user, best be on the safe side and change your password.

Other hacker attacks in recent days have included Sega and BioWare, who have emailed users of the affected services to warn them of the compromised data. However, LulzSec has not claimed responsibility for either attack, andstated their oppositionto the Sega breach.
