If numerous online reports are to be believed, it seems that former WWE and UFC Champion Brock Lesnar is going to be a playable superstar as a part of the roster in THQ?s upcoming SmackDown vs. Raw reboot, WWE ?12.
This is interesting news, as Lesnar has had absolutely no affiliation with the WWE since 2004, when he parted ways with the company following the conclusion of WrestleMania XX. Since then, Lesnar, the former cover athlete of the highly acclaimed SmackDown!: Here Comes the Pain, has pursued alternate sport avenues, with varying success.
Almost immediately following his departure from the WWE and professional wrestling in general (he had a short stint in Japan after he left World Wrestling Entertainment behind), Lesnar had a short career in the NFL, primarily playing for the Minnesota Vikings. When his football career was over, Lesnar turned his attention to the rising popularity of UFC. He became the UFC Heavyweight Champion, and his time with the company allowed him to grace the cover of yet another video game, UFC Undisputed 2010.
Health issues have kept Lesnar from appearing in any ring lately, whether that be an octagon surrounded by a cage or the fabled ?squared circle? of professional wrestling. However, if these rumors are to be believed, it seems that Brock Lesnar will be stepping back inside the virtual ropes to do battle with WWE ?12?s extensive roster. From mainstays like John Cena to legends like ?Stone Cold? Steve Austin to newer sensations like the high-flying Sin Cara, Brock Lesnar will have plenty of opponents to work off that ring rust when WWE ?12 releases on November 22nd.
In other WWE ?12 news, THQ today has released details about future downloadable content for their unreleased game. Those that pre-order the game will receive a code that will grant them access to The Rock as well as alternate attires for The Miz as pre-order bonuses. Furthermore, multiple superstars and divas have been announced as DLC. They are as follows:
- Jerry ?The King? Lawler
- Shawn Michaels
- Bret ?The Hitman? Hart
- Jinder Mahal
- Trent Barreta
- Sin Cara Negro
- Michael Cole
- Mystery Superstar (rumored to be Brock Lesnar)
- Chris Jericho
- Snooki
- Trish Stratus
- Alicia Fox
- Kharma
All of these superstars and divas will be available to download through Xbox Live and PlayStation Network! It is unknown whether they will be available at launch (a practice that THQ has used with prior games in the WWE franchise) or an unknown date later. Unfortunately for those that plan on buying the game for the Nintendo Wii, the Wii version won?t support DLC. But as Alberto Del Rio would say?you already knew that.
WWE ?12 releases November 22nd for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and Nintendo Wii! Welp, here comes the pain!
