Infamous 2 Takes Into Account Your Infamous 1 Trophies

Infamous

There's no need to leave your progress behind just because a sequel has come along. Infamous 2 takes into account things you did in the first game through Trophies and then rewards you for them.

IGN reports that Infamous 2 will ask you to import Trophy data when first playing the game. From there, depending on which Trophies you earned, you'll get any number of different things. Good or evil Trophies will start you out at level 1 good or evil karma; collecting 25% of Blast Shards gives you a free energy core; collecting 50% gets you two free energy cores; beating the game gets you 1,000 free XP; and other specific Trophies will be reflected through dialog and other means in the sequel.

Sure, it's not the level of game-to-game continuity you get in something like Mass Effect or The Witcher, but as someone who played through the original Infamous, I'm happy that my actions will have some impact when I revisit that world in the sequel. It's something that more sequels should do whether it be through transferring save games or Achievements/Trophies.

Infamous 2 will be available on June 7.

Advert for an advert, anyone? Screens from upcoming trailer confirm stunningly-rendered desks for Tomb Raider reboot! (Tomb Raider (2011))

One of my absolute favourite things about this generation of gaming is the new fad of releasing teasers for teasers for teasers. No-one gets excited about trailers or game reveals any more, let's face it. Nowadays your game isn't worth anything unless your publicity is publicised with at least two announcements of the announcement of its upcoming piece of publicity.

The latest game to get this treatment is this year's gritty prequel reboot of Tomb Raider - which to be fair, we are all really excited about. There's a full GC trailer due to hit tombraider.com on the 3rd of June, but in the meantime we have two screengrabs from said trailer with which to whet the appetites of your eyes and ears. Yes, that's four whole appetites pleasured right there, people. Eight, if you multiply them by both screenshots.

What do they show? Lara and a desk. But oh boy, is it the most spectacular desk in all of gamendom...

There's Lara, looking all muddy and befuddled and throughly knackered right out. We assume this shot is from a scene depicting the beginning of the game, given that the new Tomb Raider follows Lara's journey from weakling teenager to badass raider of ceremonial death chambers via a long fight for survival following a ship wreck. Look, there's a wrecked ship right there. And an old-school galleon in the background there too. Old-school galleons are far cooler than modern ships, with their rubbish cold metal and boring pointy angles.

And here's the real star of the show! A desk! And what a desk it is! Seriously, myself and Justin really have just been nerding out over the photo-realistic qualities of the rendering. The lighting in particular is fantastic. The subtle bloom effect on that paper is the best bloom effect we've seen on a piece of paper in a very long time. And we do get nerdy over bloom lighting.

Also, those little pointy things on the logo on that mug look a little bit like magic mushrooms. You might say they're clearly arrowheads, given the shafts and flights below them, but we remain suspicious. Are Lara'a far-fetched adventures set to be revealed to be naught more than the result of a psychotropic fungus stew? It remains to be seen, but we'll no doubt find out soon.

June the 3rd. That's when these mysteries and no doubt far more will be fully unveiled via the medium of glorious moving images. And hopefully we'll get an even bigger look at the game proper at E3.

Seriously though, that is a bloody nice desk...

inFamous 2 Allows Users To Build Their Own Missions, Beta Coming Soon

Jake Gaskill is currently playing inFamous 2 at GDC right this very second, which makes us all jealous of him. But more exciting than that is the announcement that Sucker Punch just made about their baby: players will be able to generate their own user-created missions in the game, and if they get popular enough, they will show up in the single-player game.

The key fact you'll want to know to know is that the kit includes everything they used to make the actual game, plus some stuff that's exclusive to the user generated tool set. According to Jake, "There will be filters that will let you choose what types of user-generated missions you want to show up. Mission start locators will stream into the actual single-player game, so you'll see them as you run around. Filters will keep it from being too crowded.

But if you want the full story, head on over to the inFamous 2 User Generated Missions Preview. But before you do that, head on after the jump to see a couple of images explaining how user-created missions will appear in the game.

Additionally, there will be a beta launching in early April, and the best beta levels will be chosen to be available in retail game when inFamous 2 launches on June 7th. Which, coincidentally, is the very first day of E3. Details about how to get in the beta will be revealed on March 14.

Sounds like Russians. I'll give them major props if they really digitize most of New York city and let me walk around in it. That would be awesome.

If they're still using the Quake III engine, don't get your hopes up.

The 1UP Community Responds to the Modern Warfare 3 Reveal

The Modern Warfare 3 reveal trailer was unleashed upon the Internet earlier this week, and it didn't fail to disappoint in bringing scene after scene of destruction. Amid a mixture of gameplay footage and cut-scenes, one thing was made clear: there will be a lot of globetrotting though locations in America, England, France, and Germany.

It's obvious that Tina was left hopeful, as depicted in this video, but how does the 1UP community feel about the latest installment to the Call of Duty franchise so far? Across the comments posted to news stories and our boards, here are some of the opinions shared:

"I'm not a very avid COD fan but I have to say that this game seems very inviting. Though the storyline seems far from believable, it feels as though there's a much more bigger picture brewing in the background. The level of realism and detail just keeps going up and up, I'd like to see just what Treyarch and infinity ward can do if given a different theme."

- Eakitokun

"The trailer for me was cool. Exactly what I want coming from a reveal trailer 6 months away from release. I want to see the landscapes and the color palettes of where the game takes place. I want a maniacal villain explaining how easy it is to destroy the world. I want epic linear story elements like the speed boat or the AC-130. It was (pardon the poor description of a video) fun. I didn't go in expecting to see everything, and I came out hoping that MW3 is as polished and solid as that franchise deserves. Most excited to play in France. That scenery was the shit. Definitely looking forward to playing both this and BF3 this fall."

- Horible

"Seems like the story went from being plausible in CoD4 to ridiculous in MW3. Which is weird for me to say, because nowadays I play online multiplayer more than the single-player."

- revocelot

"Honestly I'm just kind of sick of hearing about it. The original Modern Warfare was by far the best in the entire series. It was pretty original at the time and the gameplay was absolutely solid, for the most part you still had to work as a team, and it wasn't over the top ridiculous. Played a little of the World at War beta and didn't really enjoy that, MW2 didn't even pique my interest, I played maybe twenty minutes of the campaign for Black Ops and maybe a few hours of the online play, and all of this has completely killed my interest in MW3 because it has become one of those dumb-action movies and its just "that game" that everyone feels like they have to have even if they don't play other games. Its just annoying to me at this point. I will admit though, Activision really knows how to milk the cow until it can't produce anything but the manure, which is what I'm pretty sure they are using to make these games anymore."
