PS3 Gets a Wireless Surround Sound Headset From Sony

PS3 Wireless Stereo Headset

Sony today announced a new PlayStation 3 headset/headphones it will be releasing in September. It features a retractable microphone so that it can be used purely as headphones for those times you don't need the mic in getting in the way (like listening to music or playing offline games).

The PS3 Wireless Stereo Headset also includes 7.1 virtual surround sound. There are buttons for volume and mute controls, and you'll be able to check the headset's remaining battery power and sound controls on-screen. The headset connects to your PS3 through an included wireless adapter that plugs in through USB.

It looks like a nice piece of hardware, but as a wireless headset, it remains to be seen just how its quality will hold up against wired headphones. That will remain unclear until people begin getting their hands on it later this year. An exact release date in September has not been announced, but once it's out, it'll be available for $99.99.
