Devoted Club Nintendo Members, Here's What You Get Free This Year

Club Nintendo pins

The Club Nintendo year ended last night, meaning members who earned enough coins over the past 365 days have been assigned an Elite Status. The benefit of this is that you get a free prize of some sort. But, as usual, the rewards aren't quite as good as what Japan frequently sees.

Gold-level members (300-599 coins) get a Nintendo-themed 2012 desk calendar, similar (but not identical) to one of the 2011 calendars pictured below. If you're a big enough Nintendo fan to have reached Platinum status (600+ coins), you get a set of 25 commemorative pins, each with a Mario character, enemy, or power-up on it. (And featuring the Nintendo copyright logo at no additional cost.)

Coins are earned through registering eligible products (Nintendo systems, certain games for Nintendo platforms) and completing surveys on the Club Nintendo website.

These rewards don't cost any coins and are shipped to eligible Club Nintendo members for free but must be ordered by July 31. Coins can still be used to order rewards as usual, a lineup of items that still includes the likes of two Game & Watch Collections for DS, an actual Game & Watch Ball replica, and an assortment of less interactive items like card sets, posters, and screensavers.

Japan's Club Nintendo has offered significantly better rewards in the past. Namely, there was the Super Famicom Classic Controller for Wii, but there have also been soundtracks, unreleased games, and other items that are far more awesome than what the U.S. typically sees.

On the bright side, as Jeremy points out, the pins were originally offered to Club Nintendo members in Japan last year for those who achieved Platinum status. Given Nintendo's recent refusal to bring certain things over from Japan, we should be thankful to see the pins at all.
