Today's the Day to Win a Steak by Playing Halo Against Bungie

Today is July 7, or 7/7, and that means it's Bungie Day. The former Halo developer already revealed Bungie Aerospace, announced Marathon Infinity is going open source, and gave Halo players blue flames, but that doesn't mean it has nothing in store for loyal fans today. As previously announced, it will be playing Halo: Reach online all day long (until 11:59pm Pacific), and any team capable of beating their four-person roster by 20 or more kills will be sent not one, but two steaks.

A special Bungie vs. the World playlist has been set up specifically for this day-long event. You can find a list of Bungie Gamertags (so you know you're playing against the real deal) here and watch Bungie play live on Ustream (or above). As Bungie is done with the Halo series, this is referred to as "one final Halo Humpday."

Why steak? Former 1UP News Editor Luke Smith, who now works at Bungie, once threw down a challenge that his team could beat another by 20 or more kills, and if they did not, he'd buy them steak. That accomplishment has since become a medal in both Halo 3 and Halo Reach ("Steaktacular").

The steaks come from Omaha Steaks and can be shipped to anyone in the United States. If you're good enough to beat Bungie but live outside the U.S., you'll get a gift card instead.

The Bungie.net homepage shows a counter of how many games either side has won. You can check out all of the stats from today's games there as well. There are also auctions for charity going on, including a prototype of the helmet from the Legendary Edition of Halo 3 and composer Marty O'Donnell's original Halo 3 recording score.
