Citizen Skywatch Website Connected with XCOM [Update]

Citizen Skywatch

Update: 2K Games announced its PAX Prime lineup in an email today. Besides mentions of Borderlands 2 and The Darkness II, it's mentioned that Citizen Skywatch is an alternate reality game connected to XCOM. PAX attendees "will be able to step into Citizen One's Seattle bunker as he recruits new agents into Citizen SkyWatch to expose the government's attempts to cover up the unknown threat invading our skies."

Original Story: Grand Theft Auto publisher Take-Two has launched a new website for something called Citizen Skywatch, possibly hinting at the announcement of a new game.

The domain name citizenskywatch.com was discovered by Fusible recently. Looking at the whois information reveals Take-Two as the owner, and it also shows that the Rockstar Games website is among the domain servers it points to, although that in and of itself doesn't mean anything.

Since the URL's discovery, a website has gone live, albeit with very little information as of yet. One post on its blog addressed to "citizen soldiers" announces that "the invasion has begun." It states, "OUR SKIES ARE FILLED WITH THE SHADOWS OF AN ENEMY UNKNOWN: ITS ORIGIN IMPENETRABLE, ITS PURPOSE INSCRUTABLE, ITS METHODS -- INCREDIBLE."

It goes on to say the truth is being denied by defenders but calls for people to register on the website so they can be sent information in the future on the "hidden war." The message is signed by Citizen One, which sounds like something out of The Prisoner.

Another post on the site points out the website's different areas, including official Twitter and Facebook accounts. A post on the message boards has since been responded to by the Twitter account, with an added note of "details to follow," so we might be getting an additional clue shortly.

It's unclear if the website is meant to promote a game we already know about (NeoGAF members have raised the possibility of BioShock Infinite and XCOM, among other Take-Two games), or if this is leading to the announcement of a new game. Infinite makes sense to some extent in that it takes place in the sky, and XCOM also fits the bill in a way, though neither seems like a perfect match.

With Gamescom kicking off on Wednesday, it's entirely possible a new game to go along with this could be announced this week in Germany. If not, we should still be getting teases on the site that should eventually give us a better idea of what this is all about.
