Penny Arcade Adventures Will Get a Third Episode After All

Penny Arcade Adventures 2

We thought the ridiculously long-titled, episodic Penny Arcade Adventures had come to an end with two games. Luckily for fans of Penny Arcade and fans of RPGs with a dash of humor, Penny Arcade Adventures: On the Rain-Slick Precipice of Darkness will get a third entry, this one from a different developer.

Zeboyd Games is at work on Episode 3, according to RPGamer. Zeboyd is a relatively new developer, having been formed in 2010, but it made a name for itself with its quality RPGs Breath of Death VII and Cthulu Saves the World. Both started out as Xbox Live indie games and have since made their way onto PC.

The first two Penny Arcade RPGs were developed by Hothead Games. Last year, it announced that it wouldn't be working on a third game because "it just doesn't make sense for us as a company to complete the next installment."

At the time, it was busy working on DeathSpank. Penny Arcade's Jerry Holkins stated that Episode 3 would have suffered as a result of another game being developed on at the same time.

"So we'd rather not do it than do it half-assed and so we're going to finish that story but it's going to be on our website," he said last March.

The original plan was for there to be four games in total. For the third game, Zeboyd will be taking things in a different direction than the first two; it'll apparently be styled after 16-bit RPGs and will look to be released on "as many systems as we can." The first two games were released on PC, Mac, Xbox 360, and PlayStation 3.

Zeboyd's two staffers, Robert Boyd and Bill Stiernberg, were found at PAX Prime wearing Penny Arcade Episode 3 shirts. A 2012 date was printed on the back, so it looks like there's still going to be some waiting before we get our hands on it. We'll definitely be learning more by the time PAX East rolls around in April.
