Assassin's Creed Publisher Opening a Movie Studio

Assassin's Creed

Ubisoft is looking to become more serious about expanding its games into other forms of media. The French publisher has launched Ubisoft Motion Pictures to adapt its games into both films and TV shows.

Variety reports the film division will be headed up by Jean-Julien Baronnet, who was formerly the CEO of French movie studio Europa which is perhaps best known for Taken, starring Liam Neeson.

This won't mark the first time a Ubisoft game is turned into a movie or TV show; Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time was released to poor reviews last May but grossed in excess of $335 million.

There were no details on what project the studio will be working on first. With Assassin's Creed being the company's biggest franchise it would seem like a natural starting point. Taking into account that Ubisoft was recently probing fans for their interest in an AC movie (along with a Ghost Recon film), it doesn't seem like a huge stretch to imagine Assassin's Creed being the basis for UMP's first film.
