New Alan Wake is for XBLA, Called Night Springs - Report

Alan Wake Night Springs

Following up on the confirmation that more Alan Wake is in the works, rumor has it that an Xbox Live Arcade game called Alan Wake: Night Springs is in development.

Developer Remedy said in a statement earlier this month, "[M]ore Wake is coming!," but added the caveat that it will not be Alan Wake 2, nor will it be downloadable content for the first game. XBLAFans.com now reports that "an extremely trusted source" has indicated Night Springs will be coming to Xbox Live Arcade. The site was provided with screen caps of the game but was asked not to share them. The report mentions the site had word of Gotham City Impostors being a downloadable title back in February, so this wouldn't be the first time it's had the news first on an Xbox Live Arcade game.

It makes sense for the project to be a downloadable game -- Remedy said it was something that a "slice of our team" was working on, suggesting that it wouldn't be a full retail title. And it seemed unlikely that the game, whatever it is, would end up on a non-Microsoft platform given that Microsoft had the option for a sequel and all parties involved were said to be happy with the partnership on the original game.

As for the title, Night Springs was the name of a Twilight Zone-style TV show that you're able to watch brief episodes of throughout Alan Wake. The character of Alan Wake, an author, had written episodes of the show and was asked to do more. At one point, you can even find a copy of a Night Springs game, although that's likely a coincidence.

There has been some speculation that the new Alan Wake project could feature Kinect support, but that remains unconfirmed. Should Night Springs turn out to be real, expect to hear more at E3.
