Valve working with Gun Game creators on modes for Counter-Strike: Global Offensive

From Day of Defeat to DotA, Valve is renowned for working closely with the mod community to bring the cream of the crop to the public spotlight ? and that?s a trend it plans to continue with the upcoming release of Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, which is set for an early 2012 release date for PC, Xbox Live, and the PlayStation Network. The publisher has announced that it has been working with the creators of the popular third-party mod Gun Game to bring a new game type to CD: GO to supplement the typical bomb-planting and hostage-rescuing modes. It?s called Arsenal, and it sounds absolutely splendid.

Call of Duty: Black Ops fans likely recognize Gun Game as a Wager Match from Treyarch?s shooter, but its roots are in Counter-Strike: Source. The modification has players starting off with the game?s weakest weapons and being rewarded with more powerful armaments with every kill, slowly upping the ante and leading to increasingly hectic battles. Valve plans on having it come in two flavors (Arms Race and Demolition) and stretching across four maps: csgo_sugarcane, csgo_shoots, csgo_baggage, and csgo_stmarc.

"We are excited that Valve reached out and is working with us to ensure Arsenal Mode is the best version of Gun Game," said Michael Barr, project lead of Gun Game.

Gun Game has always been a favorite mod of ours, and we?re ecstatic to see it finally get the attention it deserves. It manages to put an entirely new spin on gameplay that relies on skill with multiple weapons, which is great for combating players who would rather just hide behind a box with a sniper rifle.

Valve has already released a batch of new screenshots spanning across the game?s four maps. Check them out, but be warned: it?s only going to make the wait more difficult.
