Second maybe only to Mario's theme song, which game composer Koji Kondo also wrote, Zelda's overworld theme is perhaps one of gaming's most recognizable melodies even amongst anyone who's never held a controller. And just as it's been said that the true measure of a great song is how well it lends itself to reinterpretation across any number of genres, the sheer number of tributes to the song perpetually stuck in Link's head floating around the Internet proves this immeasurably. Since it's opening phrase is no doubt already bubbling up in your ears, we'll spare no time before showing you what we deem the top 25 renditions of this famous tune.

25: For the mightiest job, this guy has armed himself with the smallest of musical tools: the recorder. More than just an instrument to blare "Hot Cross Buns," this guy lets his formidable lungs loose on the woodwind to deliver a performance of Zelda's theme in its original key, something he notes "is not easy on the recorder." We'll take his word for it.

24: Ever wonder what the Zelda theme would sound like with lyrics? Well, now you aren't alone, and you also don't have to wonder anymore. Brentalfloss channels the spirit of a toned-down Jack Black to sing forcefully about the game's loosest plot points, while also working in an ad for the strategy guide and Trojan condoms. It's goofy as hell, sure, but Zelda's a game worthy of such a gleeful homage.

23: Pop that pacifier in your gaping maw and ignite those glow sticks: this version is best enjoyed while on club drugs. (Not that we're suggesting you use drugs.) The song's main melody props up a couple of other new musical phrases, though it gets leeway on that by working in so many Link-grunting sounds and a plinky little piano to hint at the Hyrulian's inner sadness.
