Today in Gaming - 2/10/11: No More Guitar Hero DLC, PixelJunk Shooter 2 Dated

World of Warcraft: Cataclysm

Among the many interesting panels at the DICE conference in Las Vegas was one featuring Blizzard's Mike Morhaime, who offered up some vague information about the company's next MMO. There hasn't been much information released about the game even after several years of the public being aware it exists. What we do know gives us the opportunity to contemplate what could be in store for the game, which is exactly what I did today -- be sure to let us know in the story's comments what you expect from Titan.

The highlights from today's news:

  • In addition to canceling the 2011 edition of the game, Activision won't be releasing anymore DLC for the series after February.
  • Jade Raymond talks about what she'd like to do if given the opportunity to work on an original IP.
  • 1UP's Jeremy Parish looks back at the DS' first killer app.

And here's what else happened today:

PixelJunk Shooter 2 Coming Next Month

PixelJunk Shooter 2, the sequel to Q Entertainment's unique action game, has been dated: It'll hit the PlayStation Network on March 1. It features a new online versus mode with more than 20 new weapons and abilities.

Dragon Age 2 Demo Early Access Canceled

Electronic Arts planned to give GameStop employees early access to the demo of Dragon Age 2 that the public will be getting later this month. However, it has changed its mind for "security reasons" and will not be making the demo available to anyone until February 22. Those security reasons are almost certainly a fear that the demo will be leaked to the general public. It's not unreasonable, but why did it take so long to occur to EA that such a possibility was a legitimate concern?

Guitar Hero Developer Suffers Layoffs

Vicarious Visions, the developer of the Wii verison of Guitar Hero: Warriors of Rock and Guitar Hero: On Tour for DS, has been forced to lay off around 50 people. That number amounts to "easily a quarter of studio staff" according to a source. Meanwhile, 7 Studios, another developer that worked on the Guitar Hero series, has reportedly been shut down altogether.
