In the Max Payne 3 preview published in the April issue of Edge Magazine, Rockstar developers have revealed some new info on the long awaited game. Most importantly, Max Payne?s signature bullet time will make a comeback supported by the improved Euphoria engine for smoother character animation. The devs are aiming to make the game less linear then its predecessors while still creating a ?fully realised cinematic experience.?
?So you need a lot of custom setups, the environments need to be varied, and all of that while keeping the gameplay fun and responsive ? people have become really specific about how they want things to be controlled. It?s a lot more work,? the game?s art director Rob Nelson told Edge.
?We?ve put a lot of attention on AI reactions, making sure that the force of the bullet feels right. It adds a level of weight and realism to every character, and the beauty of it is we can vary the level of control we have over the system to suit a situation, which really helps us to make it as cinematic as we want to be.?
The biggest point of controversy about Max Payne 3 was the drastic change in the setting and the new look of the title character, as the game features a bald, older and rougher Max. According to the new info, the original voice actor, James McCafferty, will be returning to the role of Max Payne, while the story, set eight years after Max Payne 2, will show his transformation from a New York cop to a bodyguard in Sao Paulo, Brazil. The storyboard cutscenes of the first two games will be replaced by ?an animated collage of action footage.?
Although originally slated for a 2010 release, Max Payne 3 still has no definite release date. The multiplayer component has also been confirmed, and while Rockstar hasn?t given any specific info on it, it could very well be the cause of the game?s long development time.
